Heather Cairo is a counseling intern currently pursuing her master’s degree in clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling at West Virginia University. She is working under the supervision of Julia England, MSW, LCSW.
Heather brings over 20 years of experience in teaching, advocacy, and wellness-based programming. As a certified yoga instructor for more than a decade, she integrates mindfulness, body awareness, and nervous system regulation into her therapeutic approach. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care, and she is passionate about supporting individuals in rebuilding safety, connection, and self-trust after difficult life experiences.
Heather draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Adlerian theory, Existential therapy, and Jungian psychology to create a flexible, client-centered experience. She specializes in working with individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, religious deconstruction, self-worth challenges, and identity exploration. Her past work with survivors of human trafficking and individuals with developmental disabilities informs her deep respect for resilience and the healing journey.
Heather believes that therapy should be a collaborative and empowering space. She works with adolescents and adults and is committed to honoring each client’s lived experience with compassion, curiosity, and cultural humility.
Heather offers low-cost sessions and accepts self-pay clients including those participating in the OpenPath Collective.
